Land Management

Ringo Bore land management project

What is the Land Management Program?

The ILC assists Indigenous people to achieve ongoing economic, environmental, social and cultural benefits by funding land management projects on Indigenous-held land.

The projects supported by the ILC under the Land Management program are varied, ranging from the development of property plans to the implementation of training programs, property works and large-scale regional projects.

The ILC prioritises socio-economic development, sustainable management of Indigenous-held land and the protection and maintenance of cultural and environmental values in its Land Management projects.

How does the ILC assist with Land Management?

The Land Management Program is guided by the National Indigenous Land Strategy 2007-2012 (NILS).

The ILC provides Land Management assistance to Indigenous organisations in two ways:

  • Indigenous organisations throughout Australia can apply to the ILC for assistance with land management projects to be undertaken on Indigenous-held land. Read more about applying for Land Management assistance.
  • The ILC initiates large-scale regional projects in collaboration with other agencies, to deliver significant benefits including training and employment outcomes for Indigenous people and to provide advice and support to Indigenous landholders.

The ILC monitors its Land Management projects to record the benefits that are being achieved for Indigenous people.
