The ILC's Land Management Program
|
|
|
The Land Management Program aims to assist manage their land to gain economic, environmental, social and cultural benefits. The program supports Indigenous landholders to develop their capacity and to operate sustainable enterprises. Assistance can be provided for projects on both Indigenous-held land and land the ILC has purchased. The Land Management Program is open to Indigenous organisations in urban, regional and remote areas, and is guided by the National Indigenous Land Strategy 2007-2012 (NILS) (National Indigenous Land Strategy 2007-2012
(34 kb)).
The Call for applications for Land Management assistance in 2009 will open shortly. Application forms will be available for download from this site. Interested groups should contact the ILC to discuss their ideas and proposal before completing an application.
Quality Assurance Feedback from the 2008 Call
47 applications for Land Management assistance were received in the 2008 call for applications. Of these, 18 applications were assessed as complete with all necessary evidence and meeting the program criteria.
As part of our Quality Assurance processes, a review was completed of 50% of the applications received that did not pass assessment. The review has highlighted a number of key areas where applicants were not successful - these are set out below, along with advice for prospective applicants.
1. Please contact the ILC before applying
Applicants are encouraged to contact the ILC to discuss their funding proposal. This provides dialogue to ensure applications are made to the correct stream, questions have been understood and appropriately answered and allows for sufficient time for applicants to gather all required supporting documents.
2. Please answer all questions and provide relevant attachments
-
"Only 30% of applicants answered all questions, interpreted them correctly, attached all relevant documentation and applied to the correct category."
The questions that were most commonly not completed or misinterpreted included:
-
"Those that are in table format and require quantitative information such as the benefits tables and the costs / funding arrangements for the land use and activities tables and details of collaborating agencies / partners."
-
"Those that involve the group's details such as the number of members and details of Annual General Meetings."
-
"Those that require information in attachments."
The attachments that were most commonly missing from applications included:

3. Please illustrate anticipated Training and Employment outcomes
-
"Approximately 50% did not include any achievable training and employment outcomes."
The ILC Board has placed a priority on the achievement of employment outcomes and the provision of training that helps achieves this outcome.
It is important that applications illustrate the anticipated training and employment outcomes that will be achieved through the provision of land management assistance.
4. Please ensure all program criteria are addressed
-
"75% applicants did not meet Criteria 4":- Applicants must establish the need for ILC assistance, including demonstrating that the assistance cannot be obtained through the functions of other agencies.
-
"75% did not meet Criteria 8":- Proposed land management projects must be viable and sustainable, and not require ongoing funding from the ILC
-
"65% did not meet Criteria 11":- Proposed land management projects must have confirmed funding when undertaken in collaboration with other agencies
-
"60% did not meet Criteria 2":- Applicants must be effectively governed and compliant with regulatory responsibilities
We encourage you to call the ILC to discuss your proposal before submitting an application form.
